for the privilege of them applying to visit me we were presented with a link to a printable version of their visa application containing the details that they had supplied with their application. This form, once printed was to be presented to the UK embassy Stockholm so their case for a visa could be assessed. There was a problem though when we looked at the printable forms, all accented characters had been removed. This was to prove a problem, my friends live in Västerås which now appeared on our printable...First of all I’m grateful that I live in a country where I can write a blog post with a title like the one that I have used. Some friends of mine from China - currently living in Sweden - wanted to come and visit me in the UK. The Pho Map is a great resource if you are ever in the UK and are looking for a delicious bowl of Vietnamese noodle soup.
The map features clickable photos, and food ratings, and is growing weekly.
If you are interested in attending an Umbraco UK meet up please
fill out the
following survey. I'll let this survey run for another 5 days
and then make the results public in the forum at our.umbraco.org.I'm not necessarily committing to organise a meet up here,
just trying to get a sense for where/when and what should happen
according to the UK community.
I was wondering how many Umbraco users we have in the UK with a view to maybe getting some kind of user group together.
If you are based on the island, then leave a comment on this post with your name, location and a little background on what you do with Umbraco, e.g. hobbyist, personal site hosting, commercial site.
After meeting with Niels before the Umbraco UK festival last
week I am pleased to announce that I'll be offering Umbraco Level 2
training and certification in the UK through my company Ferguson
Moriyama.I've only just agreed to take on the training so there are no
firm details yet but you can keep up to date by following @fmoriyama on twitter or by
sending me an email using this contact
form. One of the first tasks is to update my site giving full details
of what the training involves along with the prices, practicalities
and sign up forms. You can expect this information to be online
towards the end of this week. Finally if you want the chance to be among the first to be
Umbraco Level 2 certified in the UK then read on.Within
I've been hearing a lot of buzz about Ruby on Rails, so I finally got down to running through the tutorial at: http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2005/01/20/rails.html
Pretty impressive I must say, but the jury will be out until I get to try and build something ‘real world’ with it. This might not be for a while, as all of my spare ‘geek’ spare time is being invested in Umbraco at the moment.
I am pretty sure it would handle any of the web projects that usually land at my feet, but it always comes down to whether I ‘like’ it or not.
Also, I did a brief search for UK based shared hosting packages that support ROR and only managed to find one.
Just a quick post to point you at a couple of my latest activities in the Umbraco communiity:
In November I spoke at the Umbraco UK festival on the subject: Umbraco and the 3 flavours of Azure: Webroles, VMs, Websites. The video of the talk is now online to watch.
Secondly I've contributed an article to 24 days in Umbraco the fabulous advent calendar for Umbraco enthusiasts. The article is called Mapping Umbraco content to POCOs for strongly typed views.
In the absence of regular blogging we also now have a news page on the Moriyama site where you can follow what is going on in the company. Our social media feeds (linked in the footer of the Moriyams site) are the best way to stay bang up to date!
If you are a contractor/freelancer working in the UK please read the this article.Uh oh. Ministers are about to conceal MPs’ expenses, even though the public has just paid £1 million to get them all ready for publication, and even though the tax man expects citizens to do what MPs don’t have to. They buried the news on the day of the Heathrow runway announcement. This is heading in the diametric wrong direction from government openness. Please take the time to write to your MP and make your feelings known. This can all be done online in approximately 5 minutes. This letter serves well as a template.

With the release of Umbraco 5 upon us a there will be some
changes to the certification courses. Doug Robar and I
receive daily emails with questions about this so I thought I would
blog to clear up what will be happening.
The information in this course applies to UK courses only - it
is probably accurate for other courses too, but please check with
your local trainer before booking anything.
So without further ado, here is the Umbraco 5 training FAQ:
Will you stop teaching Umbraco
Yes, we will stop running public Umbraco 4 courses in the UK -
those listed for February will be the last, we won't schedule any
after that. Both Doug and I will be happy to teach Umbraco 4 at
your company office upon request
