I've been hearing a lot of buzz about Ruby on Rails, so I finally got down to running through the tutorial at: http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2005/01/20/rails.html
Pretty impressive I must say, but the jury will be out until I get to try and build something ‘real world’ with it. This might not be for a while, as all of my spare ‘geek’ spare time is being invested in Umbraco at the moment.
I am pretty sure it would handle any of the web projects that usually land at my feet, but it always comes down to whether I ‘like’ it or not.
Also, I did a brief search for UK based shared hosting packages that support ROR and only managed to find one.

This is the result of an attempt to create Bun Bo Hue at home. I made a few fundamental mistakes including the wrong type of noodles, but the results were encouraging.
Everyone knows about Firebug right? If not and you are a web developer, you are missing out and making your life much harder!Yslow is an add-on for firebug that analyses the download time of a webpage and gives you tips on how to improve. Test results are graded A-F and displayed in a very simple format. You can click on each test which takes you to a Yahoo page explaining the test in detail and the steps that can be taken to get a better grade and ultimately better page performance.Foxmarks... over the notifier shows you the feeds that have unread items and clicking launches Google reader. I seem to be answering a lot of questions about the way I work
recently so I thought I'd write a blog post to clear it all up. The
confusion seems to be around how I split my time between Umbraco
and TeamSite/LiveSite work and what Ferguson Moriyama is - just a
front company for my invoicing or an actual company?
Here is how it all fits together.
Firstly, I'm often on a full time contract. In the last 3 years
I've been exceptionally lucky to have a great client (The Bank of New York Mellon)
that has kept me busy 9-5 - and no more I gratefully add. This
relationship is now drawing to a close.
When I'm on contract, I'm still the MD of Ferguson Moriyama. My
company is myself plus 2 other full time employees. My wife is one

So why is this useful? Imagine someone visits your site... some free time I may well try and move all of this

So what is painful about recruitment?
First of all, recruitment agents. We don’t use them, but they call us anyway. They use tricks to get around our reception. They waste our time.
I think agents are a good idea... to encourage blanket applications from people who are casting their net as wide as possible. Some of these sites make it really simple to keyword search a job, select all results and send a standard application to all of them.
This suggests to me, that you don’t want our job, you just want a job. Again, it is a waste of your time and ours.
To work around this we decided to create a recruitment process that you can’t apply to by firing off an automated email.
Traditional recruitment applications tend
