in Knightsbridge. Have a wander around Harrods for an hour or two making sure that you check out the food hall. Jump on the tube and head over to Camden. You may enjoy the market - I don't - but if the chaos isn't for you get off at Chalk Farm station
Paid a return visit to the wonderful Tay Do
Café this weekend. It is the only place we ever rated with five
chillis, and I am pleased to say that it is still just as good. We
got a better picture of the food too.
The Pho Map is a great resource if you are ever in the UK and are looking for a delicious bowl of Vietnamese noodle soup.
The map features clickable photos, and food ratings, and is growing weekly.
Two and a half chilli rated
Oriental City, 399 Edgware Road, London, NW9 0JJ
Our comment: This is a food court which has all types of Asian
cuisine, currently only one offers Pho. We had the Bun Hue, the
stock was great, but the beef was very very fatty (is this
traditional vietnamese style or not?).
Note: The rating is subject to change as food stalls change
ownership on quite a frequent basis.

Little Hanoi Restaurant

Our comment: A little Gem of a place. Great spicy stock with
good fresh ingredients. Looked a bit commercial, non-authentic from
the outside, but the Bo Bun Hue we had was among the best we've
Tragically the picture of the food has been lost from my camera

Our marathon weekend of consumption was rescued by Cay Tre.
There is nothing really noteworthy about the place, but who cares
when the Hue style noodle soups is so good in terms of freshness,
flavour and quantity. Almost a rival to the Tay Do.
Good for: Blissful, wonderful food.
Bad for: I am nit-picking, but they forgot my order.
Three chilli rated
111-113 Wandsworth High Street, London, SW18 4HY.
This strange late pub/Viet restaurant combo turned out a very
decent bowl that would have been a definite three and a half had it
not been for the fact it were so small.
Staff were very friendly and keen to talk about Vietnam and
Good for: Friendly staff.
Bad for: Small portions
3-4 Ludgate Broadway, The City, LONDON, EC4V 6DU
This place has the dubious honour of being the first to gain no
rating and an active recommendation to stay away. Fressen is a city
lunch venue that sells Beef 'Pho' (the only Vietnamese dish on
their menu). All that we can say is that they obviously haven't
sent their chef out to study how to make a real Pho and the end
result is absolutely awful.
I've attempted to come up with a description, but there are so
many criticisms. Just don't do it. The other food may be fine, who
Good for: Nothing.
Bad for: Just Bad.
Three and a half chilli rated
Saigon Saigon, 313-317, King St, London, W6 9NH
Our comment: There were a number of small issues that stopped this
place being 4 chilli rated. The food took 25 minutes to arrive and
the stock being warm rather than hot were two of the main niggles.
This place is definitely much more restaurant than a quick bite to
eat cafe that we normally go to.
On the plus side, the stock had good flavour and was very
different from anything on our quest so far, not so sure about the
mixed meats and the lack of chilli sauce on the tables.
We had number 69 - Bo Bun Hue.
